Right now, Loverboy is in countdown mode until our own most-anticipated film of the year steps out of the most classy of closests. The film adaptation of Casey McQuinston’s Red, White & Royal Blue drops in just two weeks on Amazon Prime and today the all-important soundtrack listing was announced!
Providing the ballad, daaahlings, will be none other than Cameroonian-American self-taught instrumentalist, Vagabon. However it’s too early in the summer to be crying over bleak love songs so switch it up and instead get into Vagabon’s non-RW&RB work, specifically the new banger that is, ‘Do Your Worst.’ Giving us a 90s Jungle beat with a PinkPantheress-vibe vocal, the song is a kiss-off to lovers that bring out the worst in you.
‘Do Your Worst’ is the beginning of Vagabon’s Sorry I Haven’t Called era, with the album dropping 15th September via Nonesuch Records and sees her teaming up with producers Rostam & Teo Halm (Rosalia/SZA/FKA Twigs).
“I was nestled in the German countryside when Teo Halm, who co-produced this with me, and I were experimenting in my home studio late into the night, I was listening to a lot of club music and I set out to make an instrumental that drew from the music you’d hear at an underground club in Germany or the UK yet still lived in the Vagabon musical lexicon,” Tamko explains. “A year later, when I returned to the U.S, I got Rostam involved and he had a great idea of adding a layer of live drums on top of the breakbeat from my Germany session.” – Vagabon
