At this time of year red generally becomes the colour of festivity, joy and love. In the words of one Thorgy Thor, ‘Ew. Jesus. Gross.’
Step forward Allie X who is invoking the colour red for her upcoming spooky, sanguine era! The single ‘Black Eye‘ dropped in October and promptly made our ‘Most-Played’ its bitch. Next single is the title track from her new project, The Girl With No Face – out 23rd February.
‘It’s very hard to sum up a body of work you’ve spent thousands of hours on,’ Allie explains, ‘but here’s an attempt. There is a death in this music, as well as the beginning of a rebirth. I needed to make something that came completely from me. If only once, and if only to prove to myself that I could do it. I would describe these songs as angry, stubborn, honest, dry, melodramatic, fast, and indulgent… the same way some people describe me ha. I hope everyone likes it but if not, try turning it up a bit.”
As well as serving that dark alterna-pop we crave, Allie X always gives us concepts, collaborating on the visuals with some of our favourite artists. For her previous work we saw her team up with SSION, whom once recounted us of the first time he saw a pigeon. ‘They are so smart.’ This time Allie has hooked up with two other Loverboy-endorsed icons – the visonary JJ Stratford, who in Loverboy’s former life told us, ‘I would like to add I prefer Riker beefier and with a beard’, and the always edgy, Shalva Nikvashvili with whom we once discussed the art of gardening.
Watch this space for more Allie X in 2024, and remember, ‘if you behave, you get to play…’
