Here in Barcelona the metal shutters are finally being lifted and we are being allowed to venture out into the nightlife again. The clubs are opening and somewhere there is a dancefloor playing 90s RnB calling our name. But Loverboy is still feeling trepidatious.
What better way to get over this trepidation than by watching a movie about a retired hairdresser, played by Udo Kier no less, embarking on one last job and ‘rediscovering his sparkle’ while doing it? Swan Song is the film we need in our lives right now.
Kier plays the icon, the legend, the serve that is Mr Pat, hairdresser to the stars, who now finds himself residing in a retirement home which is very much lacking in fabulousness. When he is told that one of his ex-clients’ dying wish is to have him fix her hair, he is given the perfect excuse to sashay across the country, wearing suitably chic attire and meeting one Dee Dee Dale, played with aplomb by the terminally delightful Jennifer Coolidge.
Swan Song is in theatres 6th August and available On Demand from 13th August.
