Self Esteem – ‘Rooms’

It’s official. Loverboy is dedicating this week to our most favouritest musical sub-genre – ‘Female artists who were once part of a successful indie-music duo but then went solo and released music under their own name, or an alias, and then sang an excellent song that could have doubled up as a department of a home decor store.’ I mean, let’s be real, if that category is not already blowing up your iTunes, then are you even music-ing?!

First on our list this week is Self Esteem aka Rebecca Lucy Taylor aka a founding member of indie folk duo Slow Club and her excellent new song ‘Rooms.’

Self Esteem first dropped her debut album, Compliments Please, earlier this year but she has been steadily releasing stellar singles ever since 2017. As the band name suggests the music is organic, harmonious, not over-wrought and makes you feel…good, especially if you are dealing with a break-up. Excellent timing, Self Esteem!

With the lyrics, ‘Don’t feel sorry for me, I’m doing fine, patiently seething, hoping that you’ll leave,’ ‘In Time’ was 100% shaping up to be our anthem, we were angry(!), but last week saw the release of Compliments Please – the Deluxe Edition which came with the even more excellent ‘Rooms’ – we are still angry but are on to the next stage of post-breakup healing – ‘dancing.’
