We’re not going to lie, warm weather was one of the main reasons Loverboy ditched grey London and moved to Barcelona. Now, we are so spoiled with sun that when it does rain, it feels like the end of the world is upon us! And so it was when Storm Gloria struck last week that we sought shelter in the warm environs of PAZ19, the latest restaurant from SENSI Group.
SENSI Group have already opened four different restaurants in Barcelona since 2006, each with its own distinct, personal tastes and menu, so there was already a buzz about what their latest venture would provide. PAZ19, takes inspiration from the group’s motto, ‘Come, bebe, la vida es breve’ (‘Eat, drink, life is short’).
The menu offers the group’s own spin on the Mediterranean tapas dishes, mixing them with the more unexpected and unusual tastes like a cauliflower couscous or tumeric butter. The menu is complimented perfectly with it’s carefully curated wine list and bespoke, signature cocktails.
We opted for the Menú de Degustación, whose highlights included the delicious sea bas fillet with tumeric butter, the sumptuous prawns with pear and dill brunoise as well as two delicious sauces and our personal favourite the slow-cooked Iberian pork cheeks with Port sauce and celeriac purée which was exquisite.
There are few restaurants to recommend close to the Rambla, but luckily for PAZ19, it is tucked away just enough to feel that you are transported to somewhere far away from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s busiest tourist spot. Besides the menu, one thing that is always important for us, is lighting, and PAZ19’s is perfect, keeping it intimate, enticing and inviting. A perfect setting for our stormy seclude. We’re already looking forward to our return visit, all we need is another storm, in fact, are those clouds on the horizon??? Dios, PAZ19, we’re on our way.
