NEW: Sophia Kennedy – ‘Rodeo’

Today the Baltimore-born, Hamburg-based multi-instrumentalist Sophia Kennedy returns with ‘Rodeo‘ the first single from her upcoming third album, Squeeze Me.

The psychedelic-pop queen keeps things ecelectic, pulling us in with that hypnotic, Detroit Techno-style piano as she uses her lower range to pose the question, ‘Where are you taking me, oh Rodeo? Hooves of steel but your heart so low.’ From there it spirals into shimmery basslines, yodels and yelps as she wonders, ‘Are you holding me close or squeezing me too tight, embracing or crushing me?’

Sophia says of new single, “There’s a saying, “Don’t call us, we call you.“ That’s what Rodeo did. We didn’t call Rodeo, it called us. It wrote itself, immediate and direct. We’ve only ever played it live, with just piano and bass. Back in the studio, we gave it a groove and a psychedelic guitar. Rodeo is a journey into a dream-like state, perhaps a nightmarish one. It looks into a future with a lot of question marks. Rodeo doesn’t know where it’s headed, but I’m pretty sure it knows where it took off.”
