A new one to watch for 2025 is Campbell King who just dropped their debut proper, with their tale of betrayal, ‘Fade Away‘ via Needwant. A singer, songwriter and poet from Corby, King has twice supported Mercury Prize-nominated Self Esteem on tour and can be seen next supporting RØRY at O2 Forum Kentish Town on 6th March.
‘Fade Away’ is part rap, poetry, electronica and gospel that makes for a message of hope, coming from darkness. King’s emotive delivery really carries the weight of being disappointed in a partner but learning to move on.
“’Fade Away’ is about being let down and letting people down. And that forgiving yourself and forgiving others is the same thing. It’s about facing the stuff that’s hard to face, processing but then letting it go, moving on and leading with love. It’s about faith and hope and how they’re found in unexpected places. It’s about coming through for yourself and coming through for others and surviving in a world which is sometimes just shit. It’s a song for the underdogs and the people who are hurting. No matter how dark it gets, there’s always light to be found. The future is for us too.” – Campbell King.
Campbell King’s EP is set for release this Spring/Summer.
