Right now we are in Loverboy’s total sweetspot of Fashion looking equally to late 90s and early Y2k for inspiration. The nostaaaaaalgia darling. While some artists are simply intent on still trying to make the next ‘Gypsy Woman’, others are taking the energy from that time and doing something fresh with it.
While we were trekking with llamas in Wales last month, UK’s Anish Kumar dropped his latest EP, A Mixtape by Anish Kumar. Giving us Fatboy Slim at-his-peak energy, the mixtape sounds BIG with various tracks taking carefully-curated old funk/disco/jazz samples and making them sound even more boisterous. Already tapped for big things by everyone from Pete Tong to Fourtet, Anish Kumar is going to be a household name.
One of our personal highlights is the gorgeous ‘Marabelle’ of which Anish says, ‘Marabelle is a moody cut from the back half of the mixtape which blends jazz noir saxophone melodies over dusty synths resulting in a rainy switch of pace from the sugar sweet tone of the first half of the mixtape.’
Check out his latest mixtape now and see him live at:
