We’re huge fans of Lukas Beyeler, he’s even shot for us before but he’s a busy guy. Luckily we managed to pin him down for five minutes before he jet setted off for LA, to discuss his new video piece ‘Satyricon.’ For those of you who didn’t study Latin at school here’s the lowdown….Satyricon was a book written by a fellow named Gaius Petronius. The novel is written from the point of view of a certain Encolpius who is having some dramz as his sixteen year-old bf, Giton, keeps cheating on him. Anyway have a look at the trailer for Lukas’ new work below and find out more from the man himself. Lukas that is, not Gaius.
Before Satyricon what had you been working on?
I’d been exhibiting in galleries and doing some shoots. I’m really happy to now switch to motion through video media.
How did you discover the Satyricon?
I guess like everyone else with Fellini’s Satyricon, then eventually at school with the book.
How do you relate to the story?
Everyone can relate to it. People’s behaviour hasn’t changed that much from 60AD to nowadays.
What makes it personal to you?
I guess the gay content, it’s shown in a very ‘natural’ way
Are you Gaius Petronius or Encolpius?
For sure a Gaius: I prefer to be Behind-the-camera.
What was making the video like?
Always a pleasure to work with people you love. Friendship makes everything possible when there’s not much money evolved.
How did you decide on the actors?
It’s always very clear for me who’s gonna do what. I can never imagine a replacement cast for any of my work.
Who’s performing on the soundtrack? And why did you opt for punk?
Ha ha…Don’t worry the song ‘Alternative’ from Exploited is just for the trailer. Nothing like that is in the video.
What’s next?
Boarding an airplane and flying across the Globe.
What is your favourite Mariah Carey song and why?
Michael, darling, you’re gonna hate me but….I don’t do Mariah Carey.
Adieu, Lukas!!! Hehe….
