"Randy Jackson had a leather fucking couch sent to my place."
She’s one of only two women to top the Billboard Alternative Charts in two decades! She was nominated for two awards at this year’s Grammys. Basically she was the breakout star of 2015 and 2016 looks set to be even brighter. Elle King features exclusively in the new issue of Loverboy – which you can pick up here.
And here, especially for you, is just a taste of what to expect from what happened when Elle met Loverboy.
So, Elle I read somewhere that you like mimosas?
I’m a whisky girl. But listen I also have tits and I love champagne. I like alcohol. Except gin. James Bay gets a gin and tonic mid show every night. It’s hilarious.
Well, I was really surprised to hear you were in a girl group managed by Randy Jackson. I didn’t expect that.
Yeah, but they kicked me out. Why? Because I’m trouble. We were three lead singers with acoustic guitars and it didn’t work. I learned a lot though. I learned how to harmonise, I learned how to bite my tongue and well, that’s about it. But I had no furniture when I was living in L.A., I was that poor. I had a bed and Randy Jackson had a fucking leather couch sent to my place. What a sweetheart he was.
What did you take away from that experience? Besides a leather couch…
I learned that I want to be the only lead singer in a band…and now I am.
