Our Instagram news feed has been filling up with some classic .gifs of late and it was only the other day we eventually realised they were all coming from the same person – NY’s Mikey Pop. What’s more he’s a total babe so we got in touch and talked powerbottoming with Britney, using poppers on a first date and Seth Fornea’s ass.
I think we can all agree you are the King of the Gif. What is the key ingredient to a good Gif?
For me it’s humor. My favorite thing to do it make someone laugh. So a lot of the times I’ll just do a .gif search on Google images, see one and the joke caption just pops right into my head. And of course, if it references something everyone knows that helps too!
What has been your favourite?
One I made of Britney Spears, from a concert she did in Hawaii. She has her back to the crowd and slowly turns her head towards them and all sweaty, she starts smiling bigger and bigger. The caption I made for it was “When you just finished powerbottoming like a champ.” Just the look on her face with that caption, cracks me up every time!
What’s your 9 to 5 job?
Right now I’m freelancing. I was an Art Director for a magazine here in NYC but they moved production to Florida. But I’m freelancing, I’m a DJ and I also have a collection of pop culture related t-shirts I sell on society6!
What’s life like in New York?
Life in NYC is a constant rollercoaster. There’s so much here to keep you occupied and to excite you, but at the same time there’s a lot that makes life harder. It really is Never Never Land. The partying, the art, the shopping, the food. I’m born and raised here. I had a Mom who brought me up shopping on 5th Avenue, brought me to the best restaurants. Funded my entire venture of seeing the Spice Girls in 13 cities in the U.S. in 2007. Brought me to museums, plays. So I’ve been at it for a long time and I would really love to see more of the rest of the world.
What’s 2016 hold for you?
A new chapter hopefully for me and my handsome fiance! We have big changes approaching before 2016’s end and I can’t wait.
More importantly who is your favourite pin up?
My favorite male pinup is Seth Fornea. I’ve met and talked with him a few times and aside from having an amazing face, body, ass…his personality is incredible. And every single time I see a picture of him, I have to stop and stare for a few minutes before moving on with my life haha. Female wise, its my girl Raquel Reed. She’s stunning, talented and one of the nicest girls I’ve ever met. You should hear her laugh too! It’s so infectious!
Where would you take us on a first date?
Oh it would be in Brooklyn for sure! First we’d go to dinner at Surf Bar which is a tiki/beach themed restaruant with sand all over the floor and fish tanks and floral shirts EVERYWHERE! We’d have some frozen drinks then walk over to my favorite bar, TNT. We’d dance and drink a little more then I’d pull props out of my backpack so we can have a proper photoshoot for a half hour in the photobooth there. As it got later we would stumble to the Williamsburg waterfront and sneak in, lie on the grass under the stars, stare at the Manhattan skyline across the water (all while hitting poppers of course). And I hope you don’t mind a three way, ’cause my fiance would have to come of course! haha….
Who is your favourite super villain?
Catwoman! She’s sexy, dark, stunning, wears leather, carries a whip and can backflip out of any situation. I wish they would have given her a spinoff sooner after Batman Returns with Michelle Pfeiffer, I always thought that was such a huge missed opportunity for the character!
All time favourite Drag Race queen?
Detox! She has it all! The looks, the personality, the determination! And she is a queen who I still see out there trying to be as accessible to her fans! And her sometimes 80’s aesthetic, whether its a Nagel or Jem & The Holograms inspired, wins me over anytime. That black and white look at the reunion was probably one of the most original I’ve ever seen on the show as well.
And the infamous question – what is your favourite Mariah track?
‘Emotions’! The soul of that song alone and her voice kills me everytime! But if I’m DJing and want the crowd to go nuts, I put on my second favorite…’Fantasy’. When that chorus comes on, every single time is a guaranteed sing a long from the dance floor! My fiance is a MASSIVE Mariah fan, his favorite is ‘Heartbreaker’ which also is like an on-switch for any dance floor!
