"I’d definitely call on these gangs to come to my aid if I was in any kind of trouble"
DIY, punk, queercore – it’s a spitball of creative, humorous, sexy, dirty, political rage. And in the UK right now it’s raging harder than we’ve seen since the days of Riot Grrrl. A key to the current scene is community and collaboration. There are players out there who are in multiple bands and stages are shared as well as studio time. This month sees the release of a split 7” EP between queercore bands Little Fists and Fight Rosa Fight!
It’s hard to pick ‘stand out tracks’ when there’s only four and it’s two apiece. But if forced I’d champion for Little Fists ‘Tyler Is Not A Feminist’ and ‘Sick Of You’ for Fight Rosa Fight! Both tracks are calling out assholes. ‘Tyler Is Not A Feminist’ is about an asshole who lies about his politics to get laid; I’ve heard this played at a LF gig and the recorded version here is as full of bile spewing anger as when live. ‘Sick Of You’ appears to be calling out an asshole in a relationship but twists melodically and lyrically as a call to arms against the broader assholery of society, encouraging us to call ‘Your Local Girl Gang’ instead of 999 when there’s been a crime. I’d definitely call on these gangs to come to my aid if I was in any kind of trouble… romantic or otherwise.
The EP is available to preorder as mp3 downloads and 7” vinyl from both the bandcamps of Little Fists and Fight Rosa Fight! and released on 23rd August. The release coincides with their UK tour that begins on 13th August in Nottingham.
