What is ‘Man Without A Clue’ about?
It comes from a period when I had no clue whatsoever where my life was going. So the name came quite naturally! For as long as I can remember I’ve been creating music and at that point I had lost the fun in doing it so I took a few steps back, got back into the studio and started something new. Not with any vision of having a ‘hit record’ or whatever, just creating something I really liked for myself.
We hear a bit of Depeche Mode in your music. Who else influenced you?
To be honest, music in general influences everything I do today, including Depeche Mode – I grew up with a lot of different genres around me, from Eric Clapton to Aretha Franklin, from Rock to Country and so on. I listen to so much music outside of the ‘house’ genre, especially hip-hop, reggae, blues and jazz. I’m inspired by the people who create the music, or play musical instruments. Sometimes a song has a certain groove which I like a lot and I’m itching to do something with it.
What would you like to achieve through your music?
To make people happy and dance through life! I know that’s a cliche answer, but it’s true. Music will make you forget everything for a second and if I’m able to achieve that with at least one person on the planet then Mission: Accomplished.
Do you write your own material? How important is that to you?
Yes, I write all my own stuff. This is very important to me, I could never attach my name to something I did not create.
Have you played gay clubs yet?
I played in Amsterdam at the Gay Parade for a friend of mine at the ‘Reguliers Dwarsstraat’ which was amazing! Great people and great vibes all day long. I also played at Club Roque, Amsterdam a few years back which was also awesome.
What is your favourite Mariah Carey track?
Mariah Carey & Boyz 2 Men ‘One Sweet Day’ A perfect record for a perfect moment 🙂
