Loverboy’s guide to Primavera Sound 2024

New stages have been unveiled, the set times have been released and clashes have been minimalised. Phew! It can mean only one thing – Primavera Sound 2024 is one week away! *Screams..in Spanish*

A lot of talk this year has been about #SadGaySummer at Primavera but maybe we are looking at a different lineup because we are ready to rock the house down, boots, mama! There are more moments to mosh this year than any previous one for Loverboy and we are ready to start throwing elbows up in herrre! Let us be your guide to the musical highlight of every year. Welcome to the rundown to this year’s festival…

One of the most important things to do, pre-Primavera is werq that body…clock. Get ready to pull all nighters by first up hitting the Ciutat shows. Hopefully you snagged your tickets already to the more intimate pre-festival shows around Barcelona’s smaller venues. On Monday you’ll find us at Apolo for Italians Do It Better’s head honcho Johnny Jewel then on Wednesday at IDIB labelmate Desire‘s show after previously losing it to nu-rave revivalists Fat Dog.

If you’re not attending the Ciutat shows, then Wednesday’s Inaugural Day is the perfect way to start the festival. Getting to see the return of Phoenix, after being blessed by fictional Catalan ultra-Catholic girlgroup Stella Maris. They will convert you into a ‘querido seguidor’ for sure…

Thursday is when things gets serious. Loverboy will be there early to catch Arab Strap‘s gothic tales of Scotland over banging electronic energy before causing riots with Philadelphia’s punk Mannequin Pussy on the Plenitude Stage at 19h45 and then on to Amyl and the Sniffers whose live reputation is…loud. At 23h you’ll find us being torn between the beauty of Portishead’s Beth Gibbons at Cupra and the nu-disco of L’Imperatrice at Pull & Bear. Our worst clash this year is the sexy, tropical House of Sofia Kourtesis (Cupra) with Pulp‘s hit-filled encore and the bound-to-be-epic opening of Justice on the main stages (Santander/Estrella Dam). Closing the night we’ll be dancing to Peggy Gou and then seeing the sun rise at A.G. Cook‘s set celebrating his recent three-disc album Britpop.

Friday begins with the doll, Miss Dark Americana herself, Ethel Cain playing at 18h20 on the Santander stage then we’ll be taking our seat at The Last Dinner Party who have had an incredible year since winning BBC’s Sound of 2024 poll.  The rest of the night we’ll be parked at the main stages for the sad boy soul of Omar Apollo, the king of poppers himself Troye Sivan and the Lana Del Rey (21h45).After Lana’s extravanza at Coachella, we cannot wait to see what she has in store for Prima. Closing the night for us, we will be living for the nostalgia of messy London nights with the many anthems of Disclosure (1h45).

Saturday will begin at 19h squeezing into the essential Boiler Room x Cupra for the Y2k RnB sound of Erika De Casier. Then we’ll be chilling the Auditori Rockdelux with Shabaka and his flute, feeling the love with Romy at the Amazon Music stage then heading to the main stage to see Roísín Murphy‘s Hit Parade set at 1h30. Although we’ll be pulling ourselves away at 2h20 to finally catch Model/Actriz‘s opulent, sexy, gay rock on Plenitude. After that we’ll catch the end of Charli XCX‘s set, hopefully an encore of hits and finish the night with the punk techno of Montreal’s Pelada. Sunday’s send-off will be filled with love with sets from Chloé Caillet and The Blessed Madonna at Brunch Electronik.

Primavera Sound always provide one of the safest spaces  at festivals, with their Nobody is Normal protocol set in place over the last five years. Both the two stands installed in the venue and the duly trained traveling staff will form a support network so that the public can enjoy a safe environment during the next edition of the festival.

Equally important, yes, we said it, are the food trucks available on site. We need to give a quick shout out to Piel De Gallina, because seriously, we’re dreaming about it already.
