This was not the plan. The summer was supposed to end and life resume to something resembling a new normal. We were supposed to be celebrating our fortieth anniversary on the planet in a glamorous location getting elegantly wasted. Instead we will be having a socially distant dinner party.
So this autumn we are turning to cinema for all our dreams of escapism and look, here comes our favourite French director François Ozon (Swimming Pool, 8 Femmes) to transport us not only to France but France in 1985 – surely the ultimate fantasy getaway right now. Plus he is serving up a story of teenage first love – although we’re not going to get too excited about that because judging from the trailer young hearts don’t run free forever….
Summer of ’85 is released on 2nd October via Curzon
