“The thing with memes is, you don’t plan them”
It’s the most wonderful time of the year – but 2025 is already gearing up to go off with a bang as over 200 queens from the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe descend upon ExCeL London January 10th – 11th for DragCon UK 2025!
We asked host of OutTV’s “The Gold Rush”, Miss Taylor Trash, to do some diggin’ on star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. The World finalist, Cheryl, who joined us to talk memes, DragCon UK 2025, and her ever-evolving drag career. What may initally seem like a strange meeting of minds actually came about thanks to Cheryl and Taylor’s joint history performing at London’s Her Upstairs drag bar, in Camden.
Taylor Trash:“Today we’re chatting with the queen of mediocre—but not really—Cheryl! Welcome, darling.”
Cheryl:“Oh, Taylor! Reunited, and it feels so good.”

On Being the Meme Queen
Cheryl is no stranger to internet fame. “The thing with memes is, you don’t plan them,” she shares. “It’s always something off-the-cuff like a ridiculous face I didn’t even realize I made.” One iconic example being an X/twitter account dedicated to the same weekly photo of Cheryl with the tagline, “I’m ready for another week of me doing mediocre.” Despite the self-deprecating humor, Cheryl’s stint on Canada vs. The World showed she’s anything but mediocre. “Sometimes I’ve got to bring myself back down to earth,” she quipped, “remember mediocrity, and it’s only up from there.”
Cheryl’s Favorite Drag Race Moments
Taylor and Cheryl played a game of Drag Race Wrapped 2024. Cheryl’s favorite Snatch Game? “La Voix as Liza Minnelli,” and lip-sync moments? “Anything Morphine did on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16—absolutely body-ody-odymazing.” When asked about her ultimate lip-sync anthem, Cheryl didn’t hesitate. “I’d take anyone down to ‘Call My Name’ by Cheryl [Cole]. It’s my namesake, after all.”
DragCon and World Tours
Next on Cheryl’s docket is DragCon UK 2025, happening January 10-11 at ExCeL London. “This will be my seventh DragCon!” Cheryl revealed. With three Drag Race seasons under her belt and a globe-trotting tour history, Cheryl’s earned her Lisa Stansfield moment: “I’ve been around the world an I-I-I…” she teased. Despite never snatching a crown, Cheryl’s philosophy is clear. “Winning isn’t everything. Look where I’ve come from. From the gutters of Camden to here…” she smiled, as the two queens reminisced over old photos together.
Drag Kings and Bearded Queens
Shining a light on other talents, Cheryl shared her love for drag kings. “Mr. Richard Energy and Mr. Beau Jangles are absolutely fabulous,” she said. “Professional, charming, and so talented.” For bearded queens? Cheryl gave a nod to her fellow Brit, Danny Beard. “The icon herself,” she said warmly, much to Taylor’s disappointment.
A Mariah Moment
It wouldn’t be a Loverboy interview without a nod to Mariah Carey. Cheryl’s picks? “‘Emotions’ for the old-school vibe and ‘We Belong Together’ for the feels.” Refreshingly, she dodged the predictable ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You.’
Cheryl: “I like to keep people on their toes.”
Taylor: “You’ve got to keep people on their toes to keep them on their backs!”
What’s Next for Cheryl?
The queen teased big plans for 2025, including her hit podcast Killers, Cults, and Queens, available on all streaming platforms. Of course, you can catch her live at DragCon UK 2025. “Come find me on the pink carpet runway!” she winked, “I’ll be on Cloud Nine”.
