RuPaul’s Drag Con 2024: ‘A flurry of feathers, sequins and a decapitated head.’

It’s back, back, back again! RuPaul’s Drag Con returned to London’s ExCel Centre and with it a whole host of drag talent from across the franchises – all seasons available to watch now on WOW Presents Plus! Nearly 200 queens from the US, UK, Spain, Italy, the Philippines, Germany, Holland and Brazil were in attendance and walked the pink carpet in a flurry of feathers, sequins, rhinestones. Even a delicious decapitated head served up by Drag Race UK season 3 star Charity Kase sashayed down the convention centre’s central Glamazon Boulevard.

The annual convention, which took place across the weekend was a great way for fans of the show and drags from across the globe to gather, celebrate and have a good old fashioned Kiki.

As Loverboy roving reporter, I, Miss Taylor Trash, attended the event and caught up with all your favourite stars, pressing the queens with some hard hitting questions and quizzing them on their drag race knowledge. Who came out on top? Who knew the most and who needs to go back to RuPaul’s School for Girls?

Highlights of the weekend were the Ribbon Cutting – this time with Michelle Visage – who announced it was the biggest DragCon in herstory, the Queens Walk featuring all the gorgeous girlies from across the globe, and show-stopping performances from the stars, with one in particular, from Pink Chadora of Drag Race España, really getting the crowd going!

As well as all of this, World Of Wonder, the producers of the show, announced the cast of UK vs The World season 2! It was amazing to see the love each of the returning queens received from the crowd and you just KNOW it’s gonna be an iconic season – with Tia Kofi, Choriza May, Marina Summers and Gothy Kendoll to name a few all competing for the crown. And if that wasn’t enough, later we had the cast reveal for the first ever Drag Race España All Stars – premiering on WOW Presents Plus!

DragCon is such a great way to meet up with so many grassroots performers who you follow online, who you don’t see that often in a fun and relaxed environment. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to say hi to all the girls I knew from before their appearances on the show who are now mega famous and I never see anymore! It’s also a great excuse to open up the purse and snatch a new wig, some jewels and perhaps even a gown or two!

Katy Bähm of Bähm Bähm Wigs was there and had assistance from Drag Race Germany star Nikita Vegaz, furiously backcombing hair and transforming them into stunning creations! Florencia’s Wigs, Dragged Out London and Birmingham’s legendary Sequins Showstoppers were also in attendance with busy stalls and lots of satisfied customers.

As we were leaving on Sunday we ran into Giselle Lullaby, winner of Canada’s Drag Race season 3, and she gifted me a signed bar stool which now takes pride of place in my humble kitchen.

If you love drag, drag race and community, RuPaul’s Drag Con is the perfect place to get your glitz on and feel that fantasy! With killer performances, the chance to meet your favourite stars of the show and the opportunity to shop til you drop, what’s there not to love!?

RUPAUL’S DRAGCON UK was at ExCeL London on Saturday 13 January and Sunday 14 January 2024.
