Miley, Lindsay, The Olsen Twins….the early 2000s was a real moment for kid stars who’d become icons. Now it’s time to add one more to the list – Brian Falduto. You’ll remember him as ‘the gay kid’ in 2003’s School of Rock, with the standout line, ‘You’re tacky and I hate you’, but now he’s dropping his own country album entitled Gay Country.
Brian has been been steadily releasing music as an independent musician but with this new release, he’s channelling the spirit of Shania, Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill. Brian says, “I really stepped out of my comfort zone with this. I think it’s a testament to how much I’ve grown as I finally let myself step into this playful artistic space. I remember I used to feel silly saying that country queens like Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, and Carrie Underwood were my influences because I didn’t think that was an answer I should give as a boy. But I don’t care anymore. They are my influences. If someone wants to call me the gay Shania Twain, I wouldn’t be mad about it!”
The lead single is ‘Same Old Country Love Song’ which is a super cute tribute to Country legends while delivering some really groundbreaking new lyrics for the genre:
“You’ve heard this song a thousand times, but this time it’s about two guys,
Drinking beer on the back of a pickup by the lake.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise, it won’t ruin any lives,
It’s same old country love song but it’s gay.”
Gay Country is out now.
