Barcelona’s Museu de Disseny (Design Museum) is one of Loverboy’s favourite places to visit in the Catalan capital. One of the city’s more fashion-forward venues, it regularly exhibits the works of modern & contemporary designers. While Loverboy lives for a futuristic moment, we are equally obsessed with the icons of Haute Couture, or rather Alta Costura as they say in Catalan. So this summer, we have been living our greatest fascinator fantasía with the museu’s retrospective of the legendary House of Balenciaga’s historic headwear.
‘The Elegance of the Hat’ is an incredible look at some of Balenciaga’s most intricate and exuberant creations. It not only leaves you gagging on the designs but also gives you an insight into the importance of hats in the 1930s through to the 1960s within society as well as the skill & technique that went into hand-making each of them . The exhibition features over eighty jaw-dropping Balenciaga looks from the past but the aesthetic remains as relevant today as it did when first created.
The Elegance of the Hat is on at the Museu de Disseny now until 3rd October 2021.
