A Little More Personal (Raw) With…Dina Delicious

You may have seen recently that the vixen that is Miss Dina Delicious, sent Loverboy a VERY up close and personal video message. It grabbed our attention and we needed to know more…

When did you begin to question your gender?
When I was around 4 or 5 it was never a question for me I was very sure that I was a girl but I never felt like it was a mistake I was just different and the rest would unfold.

Did you parents give you boys toys to play with as a kid?
My Father always gave me “Boys” toys but I played with whatever I wanted to I was more attracted to Bambi and Winnie the pooh, piglet. I was always the princess in the magical world with my animals.

How did they respond when you first told them you were transitioning?
My Father had passed so there was no conversation My Mom was amazing concerned but loved me unconditionally there was an adjustment period but when I look back she was very brave about it.

Although drag and being trans are not fundamentally similar – in the LGBT bracket, it seems being trans is having ‘a moment’. Do you agree?
Transgendered people and drag queens are not similar in any way. There is no costume that comes off at the end of the day or gets put on to begin it. Transgendered people are having their moment ’cause they are fighting. They are fighting for the lives to have the same protection, legal and medical, that everyone else has. It is a movement not a moment!

RuPaul has said she thinks the next ‘her’ will be trans. Do you agree?
I dont know what the next “Her” is. I have a lot of respect for Rupaul. He has made the life he wanted and is a successful business man that has made his mark in pop culture.

You remind me of Angelyne from the 90s in your styling and figure. Are you a fan?
Though I have heard of Angelyne, I have no clue who she is or what she has done. My styling and inspiration is constantly evolving.

What do you tell people you do for a living?
I tell them I’m an undercover detective looking for gingers and unicorns ! Lol. I tell them what I do. I am an artist, a performer, singer/songwriter, a radio host, an occasional muse. I tell them I AM ENTERTAINMENT !!!!

Can you tell us about your music?
My music is all about empowerment. ‘Tick Tick Trick’ is a break up song all about turning the tables on your partner and just walking away, ‘Bubblewrap’ which I will say here – the remix is massive – is about breaking free from a place or situation that doesn’t serve you anymore but with the hope to return better than before. I’m in the process of gathering everything I did the past few years adding all the new remixes and releasing a full length album. I have been collaborating with an amazing producer from London on this. I’m very excited! It’s funny because as I was going through songs and mixes, I see my growth and it makes me push farther and harder. My music, like my style, is constantly evolving. I think that’s the only way you can keep it fresh and I love it.

How’s your radio gig going on Sirius/XM? You’re fun to listen to. How’s that experience been?
Wow, it was an unexpected joy! I really love doing SiriusXM. I love getting to work with my friend Sergio Kletnoy who is the Entertainment Editor for Cosmopolitan and Seventeen Magazine, Larry Flick, a legendary Billboard writer, and comedian Keith Price.  We really have a blast. I’m excited to see how the future of this gig unfolds.

Do you want to get into acting too?
I have been acting forever. I was a child actor and this has all been rediscovered for me. I have been in several short films and videos the past few years but ultimately I’d like to do a staged play. A drama it is one of my dreams.

Do you model?
I wouldn’t call myself a model but I do take a good photo (LOL). It was an honor being on the cover of CANDY Magazine for the issue “Role Models” shot by Mariano ViVianco such an iconic moment I am very proud of that magazine by Luis Venegas.

Would you consider yourself an activist?
I consider myself someone to move conversation, someone with strong opinions. I do try to attend meetings, rallies and anything I can for any group that needs me. I think my picket sign is presenting myself to the world as a trans woman without apologies. It is what I do best. I believe in the underdog and I will always stand up for those that are or feel different. I don’t follow society norms so if that makes me an activist, yes I am.

What’s your favorite Mariah Carey song?
‘Vision of Love’, ‘Love Takes Time’, ‘Hero’ – Give me the ballads, dahling!!!!!

Are you seeing anyone right now?
My dermatologist and I’m late!

‘Tick Tick Trick’ is available now from iTunes.
