Inspired by yesterday’s news that Bette will be playing Dolly Levi in a new production of Hello Dolly! on Broadway, today we’ve fallen into a deep Bette Midler black hole. We’ve been ‘winning’ concert posters from eBay, downloading albums from iTunes & discovering THIS on YouTube – the ill-fated Bette sitcom from 2000.

Like Cybil, it basically involves Bette playing herself with a sassy best friend, a regular Joe husband, a gay Musical Director (a young James Dreyfus) and a daughter – PLAYED BY LINDSAY LOHAN IN THE PILOT. There are jokes about Liza Minnelli, some of Bette’s bad career choices and cameos from Dolly Parton, Oprah and Olivia Newton-John. Bette was even nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress! What we’re saying is that if there was any justice in this world, this show would still be up and running instead of being cancelled after just one season.
