All good things come to an end and so it has come to a sweaty, enamoured, tearful climax of our favourite Netflix binge, Sex Education. The show was really one of the best to give the comunity visibility and interesting, new characters who could be something other than just the gay best friend.
One character whose journey we loved watching was the non-binary Cal, played so well by the LA-based Sudanese-American Dua Saleh who is now preparing to release some pretty special new music via Ghostly Internaitonal, one of our favourite labels (ADULT., Galcher Lustwerk, Fort Romeau).
Their latest release, ‘daylight falls‘ is like FKA Twigs giving you the biggest rock ballad ever about realising your otherness. ‘Figure it out ’cause I’m gonna cry. Fucking me up in the dead of the night,’ sings Dua uniting all of us who could no longer run from that feeling of being different, but learned to accept, nurture and love it instead.
“I was thinking about a point when I was at my lowest, and being a friend for kids who might be feeling the same, at the brink of it, especially with all that’s going on with trans and abortion legislation. Everyone’s going through it.” – Dua Saleh
