Scarlet Envy: “I am so excited to be back in the werkroom.”

Loverboy has been obsessed with the drama, the villain, the venus with a penis that is Scarlet Envy ever since she first walked through the door in RuPaul’s Drag Race S11…and guess what? Yes, it seems the feeling is mutual because she has blessed us with this totally gorgeous shoot, giving you a chromatic moment while turning it out in Anna Sui.

Right now Scarlet can be seen in RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 where she is bringing you all the best one-liners in the confessionals, serving looks on the runway and bursting bubbles for your nerves!

Loverboy also spoke with Scarlet to find out more about her new-found love for pole-dancing, her upcoming NYC show ALLSTAR and how she’s ‘still happily accepting spankings from Mariah Carey fans.’

Scarlet, so good to speak with you. I am enjoying All Stars 6 immensely. How has the reception been?
Amazing! I am so excited to be back in the werkroom and fans of the show have made it clear that the feeling is mutual.

When you found out All Stars 6 was a possibility, were there any ‘Drag Race Challenges’ that you decided to work on filming?
My struggles in Season 11 were almost exclusively with choreography. My WowPresents Plus show ‘Envy of my Boogie‘ really actually taught me a lot. I learned many different styles of dance! My favorite was pole dancing! Check out the series if you haven’t seen it. I feel like I put the most work in preparing for these types of challenges because everything else comes more naturally to me.

What are you most excited to be doing in terms of drag post-AS6?
I am so excited for life post All Stars. I can’t give too much away, but I do have multiple international tours in the works. I’m excited to be chatting with a few modelling agencies and I am constantly auditioning for TV and film. My team is currently constructing a full bubble-esque show to take on the road, complete with all the tricks you loved from the Variety Show plus more that I actually had to cut, due to time restraints.
With covid protocols, I wasn’t allowed to have anyone on stage with me, but I am excited to debut the human bubble! You will notice we were without the pit crew this time, but I had some very special things planned. Stay tuned for more information on this developing show!

As someone from the UK, I always saw Scarlet as a traditional Southern Belle, but I’ve seen some people compare you with To Wong Foo’s Vida Boheme, Brooke Shields and Kirstie Alley. As I’m saying this I am actually realising that those comparisons are not so strange and they actually have a Southern element too. Haha. Which women in particular have helped you create Scarlet?
My influences are first and foremost southern. My mom is Miss Kentucky and she will always be my number one inspiration for drag and for life in general. New York City is also a big inspiration. I love the combination of big city energy with southern influences. My heart will always be in the blue grass but my soul stays in downtown New York. The supermodels of the 80’s and 90’s are largely influential for me, and of course Brooke Shields is my all time favorite. Nothing comes between me and my Calvins! I also give lots of credit to Movies like To Wong Foo and The Birdcage. I feel equal parts Vida and Patrick.

When you began drag, was Scarlet the type of woman you expected to come out of you?
Scarlet was exactly the type of woman I expected to come out of me. She was a bit more wild when I was drinking whiskey, but she’s always been a handful. I’m much more relaxed out of drag, but she pays the bills.

And thank you so much for these incredible images! They are gorgeous and Anna Sui is everything! How did they come to be?
I have always loved Anna Sui! I was happy to collaborate. Jim Indorato connected me with the Sui team. The images are shot by Matthew Pandolfe (Bustani Agency)I was styled by Bruce Estevez and the incredible set was designed by Elliott De Cesare. Casey Caldwell assisted hair and styling as well. I would be nothing without an amazing team!

Lastly we are named after the biggest selling single of 2001, so we always ask what is your favourite Mariah single?
My favorite Mariah Carey single is ‘Always Be My Baby.’ It makes me actually cry, but I’m a Pisces so everything makes me cry. She is such an icon. I continue to apologize to Lambs around the world for infamously calling them ‘butterflies’ on my original season. I am still happily accepting spankings from her fans, and loving everything Mariah serves us d’ahling!

And any parting words?
Make sure to catch me on Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 streaming exclusively on Paramount+ every Thursday! Also, I’m excited to debut my newest solo cabaret show ‘ALLSTAR’ in New York City on July 14th at Caveat. Tickets available here.
