When we first featured Cakes Da Killa back in 2016, he told us ‘Am I becoming a triple threat? Yeah, I need to, I’m getting old!’ and guess what, he wasn’t lying! Since talking to us for Loverboy Issue 3, he’s hooked up with Honey Dijon for a single, dropped his first album and featured in Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow alongside Cardi B.
Now he’s gearing up for his next release, the Muvaland EP – out 13th November – which sees him team up with producer, Proper Villains. Cakes recently dropped the video for lead single, ‘Don Dada‘, which is a total house anthem…because the only place we can dance to it is at home. Hashtag 2020! If you want more Dad jokes, we’re here all week…literally! ‘Don Dada’ also comes with a badass Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon remix, which is everything you’d hope for.
Cakes says, ‘I’ve always dabbled with elements of house in my music, as both a fan and student of the genre, so when I decided to put out a full-on house EP I knew it had to be done right. The Muvaland EP came about during the first weeks of quarantine. There was so much bullshit going on in the world and Proper Villains was sitting on these beats that took me to a place I needed to go to.”
