As I prepare to celebrate my fortieth anniversary on this planet, I am actually feeling more and more comfortable with my age – so comfortable in fact that I am willing to admit my first cassette I ever bought was Now! That’s What I Call Music 15. It was filled with dreamy 80s pop from the likes of INXS, Stevie Nicks and Neneh Cherry.
Feeling eternally nostalgic about this time in my life, I am enjoying ‘New Life’ from up and comer, J. Vague. Speaking about the writing process he says, “When I was a teenager I would write music every day but as I grew older, I took an interest in different things, apart from music. I started to only work on something musically when there was a certain intensity in my life.”
The track is accompanied by an equally dreamy video shot in a…castle. “While spending a trippy summer weekend in a small castle somewhere in the countryside eight friends of mine directed and shot the music video with me as a little joyful pastime. We didn’t really plan anything and came up with all the scenes on the spot. The mysterious castle had some spooky corners and a real dungeon to perform ‘New Life’ in.”
‘New Life’ is out now with the EP of the same name dropping on August 21st via Mansions & Millions.
