Who doesn’t love a good High School Movie? The Plastics. Jawbreaker. Virgins who can’t drive. All classics. But considering how much of their audiences are made up of by the LGBT crowd, isn’t it kinda weird that there hasn’t been anyone to represen’ us yet? Step aside, because here comes the super cute Michael J. Willett in G.B.F. That’s like, totally, Gay Best Friend. Duh.
It sees our hero, Tanner, pushed out of the closet at school, only to have the queens of the three major cliques fight over who gets to have him as their, yes, G.B.F. With Darren Stein (Jawbreaker) at the helm, the film is packed with ‘in jokes’ and a cast filled with cult cameos like Natasha Lyonne, JoJo, Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally and Xosha Roquemore aka ‘Flourescent Beige’ from Precious.
We sat down with Michael a few days ago and asked him all the important questions. Sadly he refused to take a semi-naked selfie but, you know, maybe the bar of a swanky West End hotel isn’t quite the place to strip to your Calvins.
What’s your favourite candy?
Anything with chocolate. Gotta love Kit Kats. I love the dark ones. Or Raisinets. I LOVE Raisinets.
What’s your ringtone?
It’s like tribal banging. It’s very relaxing. I’m like a native. An Aboriginal.
Who is your all time crush?
It has to be Brad from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The movie version. Or Pony Boy from The Outsiders. What’s that? Oh, it’s a movie from the 80s. It’s based on a novel set in the 50s. It’s got everyone in it, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez…everyone!
What song always gets you dancing?
I do a lot of fist pumps. I love the Bee Gees. Kylie is my guilty pleasure. I’ve been blasting her a lot while I’ve been over here. We’re going to see her tonight at Heaven. But I won’t tell her she’s my guilty pleasure. Just my pleasure.
What underwear do you wear?
Calvins. Will I take a semi-naked selfie? Oh my God No!
Anna Nicole Smith. Donatella Versace. Amanda Lepore. Snog Marry Avoid.
Avoid Anna Nicole Smith because that just seems like a lot of negative energy! I’d marry Amanda because she always seems like she’s a good time. That means, I guess, I’d snog Donatella! Oh I don’t know!!! Maybe I’d snog Amanda. No, no, I’d marry Donatella for the clothes and kiss Amanda Lepore. Gees, that was a hard one!
How many dates till we get to third base?
Is third base all the way? At least second or third, if things are going well…
